Indoor air qualityIn my IAQ articles I have long fussed and fumed over the need for companies claiming to be in this business to have testing capabilities. I came across Air Quality Sciences, which provides such services to hvac contractors. The company rents you the sampling equipment, tells you how to use it and provides accurate test results.UV light kills bacteria. Ozone kills mold and bacteria. Both have been used in IAQ remediation systems for years, and several companies displayed such wares. However, I was struck by the way these concepts were put together in a well-thought-out package from Sol Aire. Its Whole House Air Purification System combines a germicidal lamp and an ozone esab 750i plasma cutter generator in a single device. you simply cut a hole in the plenum and insert the active elements. integral mounting magnets hold it in place. plug it into a standard 120v outlet. the system turns itself on and off automatically by sensing air flow. many new iaq test tools were on display, but the one with which i was the most impressed was tpi''s model 705 carbon monoxide analyzer. it reads co levels out directly in ppm. it''s fast and easy to use.

historically, these machines have been referred to as "go karts" for lack of a better name. today, the industry has a variety of small, gas engine-driven, low-to-the-ground vehicles, so more descriptive names are used based on the karts'' intended applications. amusement and arcade parks rent the more heavily constructed karts for fun seekers to operate on a confined track. then there are the paved-track racers that are commercially and/or association operated, where the drivers bring their high-speed, low-to-the-ground machines to the track. and finally, there is the ope fun kart industry that supplies karts for unstructured recreation in wide-open spaces; these are the karts that i will be covering in the series.
